Tourism

Tourism has consistently been the major source of revenue for the Jamaican economy. It constantly highlights Jamaica as a place to be seen and an experience to be had. For many years now, this sector has been the most consistent and sustainable area of the economy. People all over the world recognize that Jamaica does not only offer sand, surf and entertainment but Jamaicans provide a level of professionalism and care to our visitors that is hardly surpassed by any other vacation destination. Visitors are able to relax, be pampered and spoiled. Jamaicans welcome people with a no problem and friendly attitude and are always willing to share their country with others.

What this sector has done for Jamaica is enable allow people to trade in goods and services. It has allowed people to make a living in ways that show ingenuity. Our visitors benefit from this viable sector because it allows them to sample our food, our craft, our beaches and restaurants, music and entertainment in a protected and relaxed manner. They enjoy the uninhibited freedom of the culture and the pace of the people. This has allowed the sector to remain stable and the cultural exchange second to none. Though this trade is predominantly showcased in the East, West, and North sides of Jamaica, where people arrive on cruise ships and through Sangster International and other Airports, other areas of the island especially the South, also play a very active role in this enterprise. The Norman Manley International Airport is the busiest on the island. Visitors usually arrive at and depart from this airport to visit such areas as the Blue Mountains, the theatres, craft markets in Kingston, Bob Marley Museum on Hope Road and both the University of the West Indies at Mona and the University of Technology at Papine. They visit Hope Gardens and, of course, they shop at our markets and plazas and attend our carnivals. There is something for everyone in Jamaica - for those persons who like to lay back and relax or 'chill;' or for those who wish to experience the island's entertainment from coast to coast. Our beaches offer snorkeling; our rivers, rafting. There is horseback riding for the adventurous and nature lover, educational tours and golfing are popular on the island. The throbbing sounds of reggae music filters from all corners of the island and keeps local residents and visitors constantly rocking. There are places to get married and to have your honeymoon, places to be nude and not so nude. In addition, bird watching and eco activities will simply take the breath away.
